Her Life Sisters and Affiliates |
Her Personality As characters go, Ishizu is a very serious and deep person, a woman of strongly rooted traditions and rather somber mien. She's also very intelligent and educated, even though she's spent much of her life in seclusion with her family. One gets the impression that she is an avid reader with a fertile imagination, and that this, perhaps, is the way she taught herself and learned about the outside world. However, she's also a fatalist, believing that what she sees with her Millennium Necklace is the absolute truth and future, and that nothing could change it. Her ideas on this get changed during her duel with Kaiba in the Battle City finals, though, because she expects him to use Obelisk and subsequently lose; he actually summons his precious Blue-Eyes and defeats her that way. She doesn't take her loss lightly--afterwards, she hands over the Millennium Necklace to Yugi, saying that it has no power for her anymore. In this way, she seems like a perfectionist of the first order, unable to accept that something she believed was wrong. But this balances her humble self-effacing nature, making her a richly complex and very human character. At the root of a lot of her conflicts lies a deep longing to protect Marik, possibly either because she's his older sister or because she realizes he's not only a danger to everyone else, but a danger to himself. She suggests a tournament to try to lure him out, and then enters the tournament to help stop his rampage, but it's all a part of her plan to help rid him of the evil and darkness in himself. It seems that even though he has threatened her life and pushed her away on many occasions, she still feels a strong familial bond with him, and will try anything to help him, even if it hurts her in the process. |
